HURT - Christina Aguilera

LYRICS

Seems like it was yesterday when I saw your face
You told me how proud you were but I walked away
If only I knew what I know today

I would hold you in my arms
I would take the pain away
Thank you for all you've done
Forgive all your mistakes
There's nothing I wouldn't do
To hear your voice again
Sometimes I want to call you
but I know you won't be there

I'm sorry for
blaming you
for everything
I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself
by hurting you

Some days I feel broke inside but I won't admit
Sometimes I just want to hide 'cause it's you I miss
You know it's so hard to say goodbye
when it comes to this

Would you tell me I was wrong?
Would you help me understand?
Are you looking down upon me?
Are you proud of who I am?
There's nothing I wouldn't do
To have just one more chance
To look into your eyes and see you looking back

I'm sorry for
blaming you
for everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself..

If I had just one more day,
I would tell you how much that
I've missed you since you've been away

Oh, it's dangerous
It's so out of line
to try to turn back time

I'm sorry for blaming you for everything I just couldn't do
And I've hurt myself
By hurting you

"You've got to find what you love" Steve Jobs

The other day Carmen was telling me she knew about a very good speech given by Steve Jobs in Stanford and she wanted to share it in the blog, but we already have it here from a previous year. And I thought it would be a great present for you this Xmas.

This speech was given by Steve Jobs to the students who were graduating at the University of Stanford in June 2005. To me, it is one of the most inspiring, moving and great speeches ever given.

"Who's Steve Jobs?" some of you may wonder. He's the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Apple, Pixar animations, .... You can read all about him in the English Wikipedia.

We'll work on some vocabulary using the text of the speech which was published in the Stanford University website.
Follow-up to the text / video.

Here is the link to the video with English subtitles part 1 and English subtitles part 2.

LYRICS
There’s a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch,
It’s bringing me out the dark
Finally I can see your crystal clear
Go head and sell me out and I'll lay your shit bare

See how I leave with every piece of you
Don’t underestimate the things that I will do

There’s a fire starting in my heart
Reaching a fever pitch,
And it’s bring me out the dark

The scars of your love remind me of us
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
The scars of your love they leave me breathless
I can’t help feeling
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart and soul
And you played it
To the beat

Baby I have no story to be told
But I’ve heard one of you
And I’m gonna make your head burn
Think of me in the depths of your despair
Making a home down there
It Reminds you of the home we shared

The scars of your love remind me of us
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all
The scars of your love they leave me breathless
I can’t help feeling
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart and soul
And you played it
To the beat

We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart and soul
And you played it
To the beat

Throw your soul through every open door
Count your blessings to find what you look for
Turned my sorrow into treasured gold
You pay me back in kind and reap just what you sow

We could have had it all
We could have had it all
It all, it all it all,
We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart and soul
And you played it
To the beat

We could have had it all
Rolling in the deep
You had my heart and soul
And you played it
To the beat

Beatiful...

                                                                     LYRICS

I heard that you're settled down,
That you found a girl and you're married now,
I heard that your dreams came true,
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you,
Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light,

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited,
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it,
I had hoped you'd see my face,
And that you'd be reminded that for me it isn't over,

Never mind, I'll find someone like you,
I wish nothing but the best for you, too,
Don't forget me, I beg,
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love,
But sometimes it hurts instead,"
Sometimes it lasts in love,
But sometimes it hurts instead, yeah,

You know how the time flies,
Only yesterday was the time of our lives,
We were born and raised in a summer haze,
Bound by the surprise of our glory days,

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited,
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it,
I had hoped you'd see my face,
And that you'd be reminded that for me it isn't over,

Never mind, I'll find someone like you,
I wish nothing but the best for you, too,
Don't forget me, I beg,
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love,
But sometimes it hurts instead,"

Nothing compares,
No worries or cares,
Regrets and mistakes, they're memories made,
Who would have known how bittersweet this would taste?

Nevermind, I'll find someone like you,
I wish nothing but the best for you,
Don't forget me, I beg,
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love,
But sometimes it hurts instead,"

Nevermind, I'll find someone like you,
I wish nothing but the best for you, too,
Don't forget me, I beg,
I remember you said,
"Sometimes it lasts in love,
But sometimes it hurts instead,"
Sometimes it lasts in love,
But sometimes it hurts instead.

"Without Limitations": Michelle Obama's plea for education

This week's homework asssignment to improve listening skills is longer than usual, but hopefully you will find it's worth listening to. It is 11 minutes long, but very inspiring and motivational. I love every minute of this presentation!

This is a speech that Michelle Obama made at Elizabeth Anderson school, a girls' school in London in 2009. She talks about her past life, family background, her first date with Barack Obama and, above all, she passionatelly encourages students to take education seriously. She says it is your generation which will close the gap between the world as it is now and the world as it should be. We are precisely talking about these social and political issues in our coursebook unit: Can we change the world or make a difference to it? Yes, you can, Michelle says.

It is also a pleasure to listen to Michelle's American English, you will see it is very easy to understand.

Feel free to leave your comments below:
  • What did you find most interesting? Do you agree with her?
  • Was there anything in her talk that really surprised you?
We'll have some class feedback next week on the content and vocabulary you have selected to learn. Remember it is better to select chunks of language to learn and not only individual words. It'll help later to speak faster.

An anecdote:

Last year, i went on a trip to Madrid. Because i wanted to go to the center of Spain. So my family and i, decided to go there, it was  a very exciting trip because my dad used to go on holidays there when he was young, we went to a beautiful hotel, which had great views of the city.

The first day we arrived after a tour around the town, we met the family... and we got to know a little more this beautiful city, we went to vist monuments, the prado  Museum, Atocha Station, a little bit of everything. I really liked Madrid because people are very kind, and friendly and are very quiet.

When i was in Madrid, i went to an elegant restaurant with educated people, and ambitious and hard-working, so we entered the restaurant and ask for the menu, and then i saw "bread with tomato, and ham" and thought it would be like in the Catalonia, so when the waiter came and put the dish on the table, mt family and i  couldn't stop laughing , the tomato was cut, next to the bread, bread, just had oil and salt, It as a very embarrasing situation for the waiter and for us becouse we couldn't stop laughing. This was a good anecdote for us for a very long time

The 8 secrets of success

This is a three-minute video which comes from TED.com

We all need some listening practice to improve our English, but not only that!
Would you like to be successful?
or a millionaire?
or fulfill your dreams?
Listen to this video and maybe we learn how!!

Everything he says makes sense to me and I like his humorous style. But which of the eight secrets of success do you think is the most important? It's probably a combination of all of them, but is there any one more important than the others? They don't mention "luck", do you think luck is important at all in life? for example, in exams, is luck important?

You can share your opinions below.

My memorable Experience

Four years ago I went to France, to Paris, I had never been in France before I went there. I went there on my holidays, and I went with my parents. This experience was very exciting. As soon as we arrived, we went to the hotel, and it was so beautiful. The hotel was very big, glamourous and luxurious. After that, we went to Paris city...

At first, we went to visit the Eiffel tower, it is fantastic.
Afterwards, we went to an expensive and romantic restaurant. The food was wonderfully good, was terrific. I had never been to a restaurant so luxurious until we went there. After that, we returned to the hotel.
The following day, we went to Disneyland Paris. All the day was fantastic and incredibly exciting.

All in all, these were my favorite experiences, my favorite holiday...

My Celebrity

Jorge Lorenzo

First of all, Jorge Lorenzo is a motorcycle road racer in the MotoGP Championship. He is very friendly, sensible, and the most important thing in my opinion: he is the best. He runs for official Yamaha team and he is the 1st rider of the team. On the last championship he won it, although he also won twice the 250cc championship.

Jorge is a very important sportsman in Spain, but we can't forget Dani Pedrosa, because inasmuch as his personality he is more cheerful than Dani, but Dani is more sensible. And finally, on the asphalt I think the two are very good.

MY BEST FRIEND

My best friend is one of the kindest persons I know. She is dark-skinned, medium height, and slim in aspect. In dress and manners …what can I say? She always makes the right choice! (Although, almost all her dresses are black. That is a little boring, at least for me).

She has got a lot of qualities, but there is one thing I love the most about her: She always tries to help as much as she can. Maybe that sounds rare, but for me it’s an astonishing quality.
She has got a lot of hobbies but the one she loves the most is manga. All her drawings are made as is due. Maybe that’s why all her drawings are just mind-blowing. She is very professional, organized, businesslike and yet somehow a little clumsy.

I haven’t seen her for 5 years now! But I can still make a guess about how she looks like. I suppose she is taller and maybe less butterfingered. I’m sure she has got good-looking features.

I’m sure we’ll meet soon or at least I hope that.

My best friend

My friend Victor is in the same class as me at school. He's sixteen years old, and he's tall for his age. He's thin, and he has got fair skin, green eyes and short red hair.

Victor is very cheerful, he's never angry. Also, he's very generous and polite with all people. We never fall out. I count on him a lot because he's very sensible.
He's good at sports. He used to play basketball two years ago. He played brilliantly!

Although Victor and I are very different, our friendship is very strong!

What I like doing in my free time

One of my main interests is skateboarding. Every day I go to skate to the skateplace of Los Planos. I have a lot of friends in the park. At nights I watch videos of my friends or professionals riders. At the weekend I go to Barcelona to practise, I like the places there. Once a month I compete in contests with other people of other cities: last year I finished third of Cataluña.

My other interest is playing football. I love playing football with my team, the CE Sant Gabriel. Sometimes I go to stadium to play matches versus other teams. I like it because is a collective sport.

I love the two sports, but I love more skateboarding, because it is more freedom; I skate when I want, and not when the trainer wants. In addition, with skateboarding I travel to other cities and countries!

Marta is quiet cheerful, friendly, imaginative and funny. She’s very affectionate and sociable. She likes order, and she’s very tidy and organized. She doesn’t like untidy people at all.
She’s quiet and shy. It’s difficult for her to make new friends.
Although Marta and I are very different, we get on really well. All in all, I think Marta is my best friend. I love her because is patient and charming with me.

My Free Time

The truth is that since I have started 1t of Bachillerato, things have changed a lot. I don't have as much time as before, so it's going to be a little difficult to tell you what I do, because it is not much.
The days of the week, When I have helped with household chores and I've done my homework, I like going outwith my boyfriend and have dinner with him at home, but only If I don't have any exam the next day. Another thing, also If I have free time, is going to the library: take thousands of books and DVD's.
As I don't have a computer or internet, I can't spend all day on facebook or any social netwoorks.
At the weekends, rather than using the free time, I rest.
When it comes the desired Friday before twelve o'clock I'm sleeping because I'm very tired.
Generally, at weekends, I organize my time very well: I like to see my family, eat with my parents at home and meet my friends and my boyfriend.
I think the weekends should have one more day.

LYRICS

Planet Earth, my home, my place
A capricious anomaly in the sea of space
Planet Earth are you just
Floating by, a cloud of dust
A minor globe, about to bust
A piece of metal bound to rust
A speck of matter in a mindless void
A lonely spacship, a large asteroid

Cold as a rock without a hue
Held together with a bit of glue
Something tells me this isn't true
You are my swweetheart soft and blue
Do you care, have you a part
In the deepest emotions of my own heart
Tender with breezes caressing and whole
Alive with music, haunting my soul.

In my veins I've felt the mystery
Of corridors of time, books of hisotry
Life songs of ages throbbing in my blood
Have danced to the rhythm of the tide and flood
Your misty clouds, your electric storm
Were turbulent tempests in my own form
I've licked the salt, the bitter, the sweet
Of every encounter, of passion, of heat
Your riotous color, your fragrance, your taste
Have thrilled my senses beyond all haste
In your beauty, I've known the how
Of timeless bliss, this moment of now

Planet Earth are you just
Floating by, a cloud of dust
A minor globe, about to bust
A piece of metal bound to rust
A speck of matter in a mindless void
A lonely spacship, a large asteroid
Cold as a rock without a hue
Held together with a bit of glue
Something tells me this isn't true
You are my sweetheart gentle and blue
Do you care, have you a part
In the deepest emotions of my own heart
Tender with breezes caressing and whole
Alive with music, haunting my soul.
Planet Earth, gentle and blue
With all my heart, I love you

I hope the lyrics are OK ^^.

My free time

The first and most vital consideration is that normally I've got a lot of things to do. Right now I'm studying really hard for my exams. I also help my parents out. They own a shop and I help there in the evenings, so I don't get a lot of free time during the week. But I do manange to find some free time  most days.

The second thing I'd like to mention is that I was feeling tired since I started this course but someone told me it was far more important to get enough rest than to stay up late studying. I've gone to bed early every night since then and I manage to concentrate for longer during the day, so in the end I do acually get more done.

Last, and probably least I think it's interesting to know that now I use Internet just about every day only for my studies and not to keep in touch with my friends. I would also like to talk about sports. I joined tennis last year and I still play once a month provided I can get to training.

Yes, I 'm busy but I've got the time to put into learning tennis. I much prefer playing tennis to watching it on TV, thought I do occasionally watch a match if there's a big final or something.
I don't really have much time but I always try to take advantage of those moments when I am supposes to be free.

Steve Jobs

Today we all woke up with the new about the death of this awesome man who has changed the technology.

I just want to remember him from here.

Here you have a little resume of his life. (find more on wikipedia, if you like)

Steven Paul "Steve" Jobs (February 24, 1955 – October 5, 2011) was an American computer entrepreneur and inventor. He was co-founder, chairman, and chief executive officer of Apple Inc. Jobs also previously served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios; he became a member of the board of directors of The Walt Disney Company in 2006, following the acquisition of Pixar by Disney. He was credited in Toy Story (1995) as an executive producer.

In the late 1970s, Jobs — along with Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, Mike Markkula and others — designed, developed, and marketed one of the first commercially successful lines of personal computers, the Apple II series. In the early 1980s, Jobs was among the first to see the commercial potential of Xerox PARC's mouse-driven graphical user interface, which led to the creation of the Macintosh. After losing a power struggle with the board of directors in 1985, Jobs resigned from Apple and founded NeXT, a computer platform development company specializing in the higher-education and business markets. Apple's subsequent 1996 buyout of NeXT brought Jobs back to the company he co-founded, and he served as its CEO from 1997 until August 2011.

In 1986, he acquired the computer graphics division of Lucasfilm Ltd which was spun off as Pixar Animation Studios. He remained CEO and majority shareholder at 50.1 percent until its acquisition by The Walt Disney Company in 2006. Consequently Jobs became Disney's largest individual shareholder at 7 percent and a member of Disney's Board of Directors. On August 24, 2011, Jobs announced his resignation from his role as Apple's CEO.

On October 5, 2011, Jobs died in California at age 56 of pancreatic cancer.

Here we have a video tribute that the CNN have done, where you can see everything he had done:

And finally one of the thousand of videos tribute that people has made.
He is the one who talk in the video.

Here you have what he says:

Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them. About the only thing you can't do is ignore them. Because they change things. They push the human race forward. And while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius. Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Congratulations on your PAU results

I must congratulate you on your new success! I’m very proud of you! You passed the exam and I hope the grade will be good enough for you to enter the university you want to.

So that’s the beginning of a new stage in your life and all you can do now is celebrating it!

I would like to share a poem which I like a lot and you might find it inspiring too.

“If you think you are beaten, you are,
If you think you dare not, you don't.
If you like to win, but you think you can't,
It is almost certain you won't.

If you think you'll lose, you're lost,
For out in the world we find,
Success begins with a fellow's will.
It's all in the state of mind.

If you think you are outclassed, you are,
You've got to think high to rise,
You've got to be sure of yourself before
You can ever win a prize.

Life's battles don't always go
To the stronger or faster man.
But soon or late the man who wins,
Is the man who thinks he can.”

It is not clear who the author is, some people attribute the poem to Kudyard Kipling, others to Walter D. Wintle or Napoleon Hill.

Keep in touch!
Feel free to continue writing in the blog whenever you want! I hope to hear from you all!
Have a great and wonderful summer!

Goodbye!

Well guys, our time in high school is ending and I just want to say goodbye to everyone. We've grown up together in many aspects and ways, and now it is time to say goodbye and just grow up by ourselves and for ourselves or with different people. Some of us have shared fifteen years of our lives together, some of us have shared six, others two and others just one. But despite this fact, I have to say that I've really enjoyed your company and I hope you've enjoy mine as well. I just hope that we'll remain friends and that we'll celebrate our victories together and that we'll support each other when one of us needs it. As you all know, I've done something as my farewell present for you, so here it is.

Which is the most important thing in you life

Which is the most important thing in our life: a lot of money, good health, close family or an important job
Nowadays people are worried about their life and almost always, they can't choose their priorities. One part of the people is concerned in business and money, others about a good health like M. Jackson for example, someone needs to support and has a close family and there are people who donate their life to their career.
What about money, moneys rule the world, probably it's true. Everywhere we go we use money, credit cards to pay. In the modern world people are considered to raise their bank account. This kind of people think that money will solve all their problems. But in reality, there're things that you can't buy, like health, love, friendship, talent. You can pay a big amount of money to your doctor, but you won't be healthy, you can pay to speak with someone, but you won't buy their respect, and finally you can buy sex, but that woman will hate you even more...A real pleasure doesn't consist of material things.
A close family is something closer to our happiness. A really close family won't let you go alone in your life road; they will always accompany you, even if the society has left you alone. Only your close family will understand you and will give you a real support in your life.
If you like your job, you'll succeed there. But during your career people forget about others and about so many interesting things that make your life colorful, like children, family, parents, your wife/girlfriend...
A real careerist after a 20-year-work will understand that his life has passed and they have nothing to remember. Probably they are rich but they don´t have people on their side. Our ignorance might be painful for people who surround us.
In my opinion, a good health is a very important thing in our life. I wish I had always an excellent health. If you got a good health, you wouldn't have obstacles in your life. The only thing that can stop us is illness, or death. Other things can be overcome by our desires...If I really want something, maybe not now but i will get it!
So, life as a conclusion I would like to say that the most important things are a close family and a good health! I´m happy because I’ve got the first one, let´s see if the second one will be with me during my life.

Patricia Kuhl: The linguistic genius of babies

Hi guys!
Today I searched talks to practice listening to the test for tomorrow, I've found this talk very interesting.
This talk is about the developmental factors that influce a baby to learn a new language.
It's very interesting to know when we are able to learn many languages and how we develop our brain.
Personally, I'm trilingual since I was little, and I think it's important to learn many languages since we're children, so we have the brain more developed and better able to recognize and learn foreign languages.
It is also interesting the experiments which the researchers did with the children, learning how people affect our learning, we learn more with people than watching tv.
I hope you'll like the video !
See you tomorrow in listening test!

School plays a more important role than the family in shaping one's personality

It is true that school plays an important part in the psychological development of the child because children spend a lot of hours at school, with their classmates and teachers who influence them.

On the one hand, most children stay at school an average of 8 hours. They do all the activities that a child has to do in his/her daily life, 4 hours studing, 2 hours in the eating room, 2 hours doing other activities with their classmates or individually (for example sleeping).

On the other hand, the child spends a short time with the family, inside or outside the home, with a total daily time of 4 hours. In addition, at least, one of the parents usually works all the day and consequently, he comes back home tired and he doesn't pay enough attencion to his son/daughter.

All in all, school might seem more important in shaping a child's personality. However, a part of a person's personality is geneticaly determined when hi is born and he develops it during his experiences in school and at home equally.
